1966 Jaguar E-Type Series One 4.2 FHC

This beautiful Series One E-Type has been lovingly restored with the current owner completing extensive works to ensure this 4.2 FHC performs to its best potential.

An immediate success and one of the most fondly regarded British designs of all time. At the time of its launch in March 1961, the sleek design of the Series-One Fixed Head Coupe was responsible for Enzo Ferrari famously claiming it to be ‘the most beautiful car ever made’.

The refined styling of the Series-One E-Type remains the most elegant form of the model and a shape that would prove unbeatable when compared with the two later variations.

In addition the entirely revised version of the 4.2 XK engine is widely considered to offer the ultimate combination of Series-One style and performance. With its triple SU carburettors providing increased torque and driveability the 4.2 also featured more comfortable seats and an all-synchro gearbox. With a top speed in excess of 153mph and revolutionary use of all-round disc brakes, Autocar Magazine tested a UK spec E-Type 4.2 Fixed Head Coupe in May 1965 and claimed “in its 4.2 guise the E-Type is a fast car (the fastest we have ever tested) and offers just about the easiest way to travel quickly by road.”

This beautiful example of Jaguars most highly regarded of sports cars has been lovingly restored with the current owner having spent considerable sums to ensure this Series One 4.2 FHC performs to its best potential.

With the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirming matching numbers for body, chassis, engine and gearbox. A photographic record of the total restoration completed eight years ago forms part of an extensive history file. A raft of invoices includes records of a recent and full engine rebuild having been completed by XK Specialists Sigma Engineering to perfect performance of the 4.2 Ltr. In addition, every component has been lovingly attended to and the current owner has enjoyed various tours and events together with having recently won a concours at a select members club event.

Finished in Opalescent Blue with Navy Blue hide and chrome wire wheels, with a total restoration completed to superb standard throughout, this Series One 4.2 FHC offers a fantastic example of this most classic and elegant of 1960’s sports cars.
