1975 Maserati Merak

Superb and completely restored example, please enquire for further details.

We are delighted to offer for sale this excellent and fully restored example of Maserati’s superb Merak.

Introduced at the Paris Motorshow in October 1972, Maserati intended the all-new Merak as a lighter and more efficient offering to their already established and highly regarded Bora.

Featuring a similar steel monocoque and bearing more than a passing resemblance to its larger V8 powered sibling, Giotto Giugiaros sharp and futuristic styling was matched with a compact and mid-mounted V6 powerplant. The Merak was cleverly and subtly reconfigured to house a new and sophisticated tubular subframe which supported the powertrain and rear suspension. Positioned longitudinally, the all alloy, quad-cam 3Ltr. engine was paired with a 5-speed transaxle gearbox which not only helped reduce the weight of the Merak but also allowed for the addition of a 2+2 seating configuration.

With its distinctive Ital Design styling complete with the addition of open flying buttresses, the Merak quickly gained an impressive reputation for not only its sleek and modern looks but also its ability as a precise and rewarding drivers car.

From a production of just 231 original right hand drive examples, this rare UK supplied Merak was purchased by its’ current keeper, an avid Maserati enthusiast and collector in 2001 following the completion of a total and exacting ‘ground-up’ restoration.

Finished in immaculate Giallo Fly Yellow paintwork with Verde full leather interior, all elements of the car were restored and re-built to as new condition. The photographic records and extensive invoices which accompany show both the quality and level of the restoration and help form part of the complete history. Given the proceeding twenty years following the restoration, the Merak has been enjoyed sparingly and the mechanical and cosmetic condition both remain in the same excellent standard today and are testament to the quality of work undertaken at the time.

As a 1975 UK supplied example, this Merak benefits from the updated three spoke steering wheel and later Bora style dashboard layout which help provide a more modern feel to the interior over the earlier Citroen sourced console. The original Campagnolo cast alloy wheels have been fully refurbished which together with a recent service and recommission mean that this excellent example is now ready to be enjoyed by its next keeper.

This superb Maserati typifies Italian mid-engine sports GT’s of the era and offers a fantastic opportunity at a fraction of the cost of some of its less exclusive peers.
